NV Improves Immunization Rates

The NV State Health Division recently announced Nevada's ranking for childhood immunization rates improved from 47th in the nation to 45th for vaccine coverage in 19 - 35 month-old children.

Program Manager Christi Smith said:  "Though we are closing the gap in our ranking and continue to see a decrease in vaccine preventable diseases due to our endeavors, Nevada will continue to bolster efforts to protect and immunize our children and residents.  We are seeing the positive effects of the mandatory reporting statue for the state immunization registry, WebIZ.  This statute became effective on July 1, 2009 and requires all childhood, adolescent and adult immunizations be recorded in the state immunization registry."

While an improvement of two rankings, especially when we're in the bottom five states in the nation may not seem like much improvement, for Nevada it's a trend in the right direction!  I am very happy that the bills I've sponsored on immunizations in recent years have contributed to this improvement, and hope that WebIZ continues to help Nevada's kids and families to stay healthy.
